The Kashmir Files is a heartbreaking story about Kashmiri Pandits’ agony, suffering, struggle, and trauma as seen through the eyes of Krishna, the protagonist. The film raises important issues regarding democracy, religion, politics, and humanity.
The Kashmir Files tells the narrative of Krishna Pandit (Darshan Kumar), a JNU student who believes his parents were killed in an accident, as his grandfather, Pushkar Nath, claims (Anupam Kher). The truth, on the other hand, is much more gloomy. He’s stuck in the between of two conflicting accounts of the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit exodus. One side is represented by Pallavi Joshi, a pro-Azaadi JNU professor who is gathering a lot of sympathy for her Kashmir cause on campus. Nath, on the other hand, has been fighting for justice for the exodus for the past 30 years, which the professor argues was a fake. Krishna returns to Kashmir after Pushkar Nath’s death to carry out his final wishes and encounters four of Nath’s acquaintances, a journalist, a doctor, a former police officer, and a retired government official. They are astounded to learn that Krishna was unaware of his father’s death. The Kashmir Files therefore becomes a quest for Krishna to learn the truth. Krishna’s father is assassinated by a local terrorist while hiding in a jar of rice, in one of many terrible situations. His mother feels compelled to consume the bloody rice from the same container.
