The era of romantic heros in Bollywood started with Dev Anand Sahab and Shammi Kapoor (first person who entered into list of “Most Handsome Man in World” from Bollywood). Great Dev Anand shaab and Shammi Kapoor ji were popular enough but charming Rajesh Khanna ji was the one who was tagged most romantic hero of that time.
After completion of first inning of Rajesh Khanna, and rise of Amitabh Bachchan as “Angry Young Man”, the romantic hero title was somehow hold by Rishi Kapoor. Till then, romantic movies were common for all stars and superstars, but no one was titled as “Romantic Hero” after first inning of Rishi Kapoor.
Shahrukh Khan in Bollywood
In 1991, when Shahrukh Khan entered Bollywood, Rishi Kapoor first inning was about to complete. Shahrukh Khan started his career with first released movie “Deewana” – a romantic-action story, with Rishi Kapoor in main lead. Shahrukh Khan presented himself as a promising newcomer.
After few conventional movies, he established himself in Bollywood with his negative roles in Darr, Bazigar, and Anjaam. This was first proof of his out of box approach, but no one can think at that time that this boy, who is moving towards villain category from hero category is going to be “King of Romance”. Even at that time, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan were more near to “Romantic Hero” label.
In 1995, Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” was a huge hit. Now it seems important to mention that initially, Shahrukh didn’t want to play the role of loverboy. Salman and Madhuri starrer “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun” was a huge hit of year 1994 but beauty queen Madhuri Dixit stole the show and got maximum credit – uhu uhu. But Shahrukh Khan got maximum credit for DDLJ success and got the ever best stroke to put Shahrukh Khan at top among “Romantic Hero” heros of that time. DDLJ was not completely responsible to set him as loverboy.
Shahrukh Khan in DDLJ was a naughty NRI, who knows and respect our Indian culture. He never tried to run away with his love, Simran. On the contrary, he tried hard and his best to convince Simran family for himself. The movie touched hearts of NRIs, who respect and love Indian culture, and become the first of few movies , which opened the gate of overseas market for Bollywood.

Later Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum, Kal Ho Na Ho are a series of his movies from 1997-2003, which established him as “King of Romance” in and beyond Bollywood. Actually, all love-stories lovers expect and watch a new love message in his romantic movies starting from DDLJ.
Where DDLJ was based on convincing your partners parent in spite of running away, Dil to Pagal Hai was story of three people in love tringle, having their own understanding about love. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was story of love and friendship, and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gum was about bonding between a father and son. Mohabbatein was about unconditional love, and Kal Ho Na Ho was about love beyond life.
The list doesn’t stop here. If Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was about post-marriage love, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was about extra-marital affair between unhappy couples. Veer-Zara was about love beyond boundaries. Chalte Chalte was about common differences between any couple. Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam was about untrust between couple. Jab Tak Hai Jaan was about waiting in love. Chennai Express was about love beyond language.
“King of Romance” title is just for him because of different expressions of love represented in his different movies. Those, who loves any other expression more than love stories, complaints regularly about Shahrukh’s over and repeated acting in different movies. Such movie-goers takes love as a single expression, and wants their superstar to perform beyond that. Shahrukh has successfully performed negative, comedy, tragedy, action, thrill in different movies, but he is regularly considered as expert in expressing love.
Shahrukh Khan’s loving heart
Shahrukh’s heart is full of love. He loves his wife, his family, his friends, and his work. His wife, Gauri, and he made love marriage. It is one of few successful love stories of any Bollywood star. In fact, Shahrukh is one of few successful superstars, who are bound to only one girlfriend and/or wife in their entire life.
Besides his wife, he loves his kids very much like any father can do. He continuously spent time with them, and takes special care of them with all available means.
Beyond his family, Shahrukh is also known for his bonding with his friends. Its genuine proof is all those haters, who cannot stop hating his on and off-screen bonding with his different friends.
