Dhoom 3 has again created history with opening the door of Rs500 crore club for bollywood movies. Yes! Dhoom 3 is first bollywood film in Rs500 crore club. Dhoom 3 is officially the first Indian Film to cross Rs.500 crore in worldwide market. The gross box office collection of Dhoom 3 in domestic market was at Rs351.29 crore and Rs150.06 crore from overseas markets on 6th Jan 2014, hen Yash Raj Film issued the statement.
Aamir starer 3 Idiots (2009) was the highest grossing Indian film in its time till 2013. In 2013, Shahrukh starer Chennai Express broke that record and emerged as top grosser. The film retained the top slot for about three months. But after that, Hrithik starer Krrish 3 (2013) smashed its record and became the biggest grosser Indian film. But Krrish 3 enjoyed its position for less than two months and Dhoom 3 performed exceptionally well at the box office.
It seems that success of Dhoom 3 is at higher slot in Aamir thoughts rather than box office. He recently stated about box office collection and his box office multiplier theory. As per his theory, only 3 idiot and Dhoom 3 is content wise good, and Chennai Express and Krrish 3 doesn’t stand competitive (content-wise).
Aamir Khan said, “To measure a film’s success, you need to see the weekend figures and compare it with the total collection.” He also stated, “Like 3 idiots did Rs 40 crore on the weekend and the total business was Rs 202 crore, so the weekend multiplied by 5, is the behavior of the film, which is very good. That shows people have gone again and again to see the film,” Last but not least, he added, “Jo film teen din mein 100 crore karein aur total mein 200 crore karein, then that film is not good,“.
Chennai Express and Krrish 3, both earned nearly Rs100 crore in first three days, but their total gross earning worldwide is very less from Rs500 crores.
But, if we ignore the fan clubs of three star, Krrish and Dhoom series, Krrish 3 has more content than Chennai Express and Dhoom 3, after 3 idiots. Aamir also need to ignore IMAX collection and compare the collection-investment ratio and number of screens, for better calculations.
The Record Dhoom 3 Could not Make
Dhoom 3 was also expected to open the door of Rs300 crore club in India, but it seems very difficult now. The film has earned Rs276.09 crore till its third week Wednesday on domestic box office and the films releasing on this Friday (10 January) are expected to affect “Dhoom 3” collections.
