The third franchise of Dhoom series has crossed 100 crore business mark in first 3 days (opening weekend) of its release in domestic box office collection.
Released on 20 December, Dhoom 3 domestic opening day collection was Rs36.22 crore including releases in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages in India, as well as IMAX theatres.
The second day domestic collection was Rs33.36 crores on Saturday. On last day of opening weekend, Sunday, the domestic collection was Rs38.03 crores.
With Dhoom 3 domestic collection of Rs107.61 crores (Hindi version Rs100.76 crores, Tamil & Telugu version Rs6.85 crores) on its first weekend, Dhoom 3 is now the fastest Rs100 crores grosser in domestic market.
The industry is waiting for Dhoomed New Year. Dhoom 3 is expected to cross the Rs250 crore business mark on the great occasion of Dhoomed New Year 2014.
Comparison with Hollywood
Bollywood films Dabangg, Chennai Express, Krrish 3 stands nowhere in competition of Hollywood movies in terms of gross collection. To enter the top 50 films (gross earning), Dhoom 3 will need to earn more than Rs4500 crore, which none of us is expecting. Our expectations are limited to total earning of Rs500 crore for Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3. It is still a long journey for Indian films to be No.1 on world platform.
